Paving Inspector Workshop

By the end of this 6‑hour training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a city paving inspector

  • Recognize the basic components and behavior of Hot Mix Asphalt

  • Identify and enforce key specification requirements relevant to inspection

  • Verify that the approved Job Mix Formula (JMF) is being used

  • Understand, at an inspector level, asphalt plant operations and delivery tickets

  • Observe and document proper paving, compaction, joints, and surface quality

  • Recognize common construction problems and know when to escalate concerns

  • Complete clear, factual inspection documentation that supports acceptance decisions

Overall outcome:
Participants will be able to competently inspect and document basic Hot Mix Asphalt paving operations to help those responsible for pavement projects protect their interests and support quality construction.
